Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at BCIL successfully transferred two promising technologies developed at the Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing, CIAB, Mohali.

The technology, "Xylitol Production using highly efficient acidophilic Meyerozyma caribbica using Biomass Hydrolysate," developed by Dr. Meena Krishania, Scientist C, CIAB and her team, was transferred to M/S Kapse Patil Krushi Producer Co. Ltd, a sister company of the Kapse Group. This is the first bio-based xylitol production technology in India and offers a one-step solution for delignification, detoxification, and decolorization of biomass followed by microbial fermentation, thereby significantly reducing the cost of xylitol production.

The second technology, "A Process for Preparation of Para-menthane-3,8-diols Enriched Citronella Oil," developed by Dr. Bhuwan Mishra, Scientist D, CIAB, and his team was transferred to M/S Gowriz Skin Care Pvt. Ltd. This technology offers a process to enhance the mosquito and insect-repellent properties of low-value citronella essential oil by enriching it with PMD.The use of PMD as insect repellent has been authorized by USEPA and EU.

The licensing ceremony took place in the gracious presence of Professor Ashwani Pareek, Executive Director of NABI and CIAB, Dr. Purnima Sharma, Managing Director of BCIL, inventors and other scientists from CIAB and NABI.
