Padma Shri Prof. Ananda Mohan Chakrabarty, a renowned Indian microbiologist passed away on July 10, 2020 in USA. Prof. Chakrabarty is known for his great contribution in research on directed evolution and development of genetically engineered organisms, the famous oil-eating bacteria that led to the well known case Diamond v. Chakrabarty on patentability of microorganisms. He emphasized for patent oriented research and marketable product development through biotechnological process.
Prof. Chakrabarty played a key role through his valuable contribution in conceptualizing and setting up of our company ‘Biotech Consortium India Limited’ (BCIL). He also chaired our Scientific Advisory Committee in early years of BCIL.
BCIL is indebted to Prof. Chakrabarty and honored to be associated with this eminent luminary.
